1 John 2:15 - Offer Love to God
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
This verse teaches us: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If we love these things, we will not have a heart of love for God. In this materialistic and money-centered world, temptation and seductions of Satan are everywhere. Take money, fame and fortune, fleshly enjoyments and lust of the eyes—all these things are constantly devouring man’s heart. Man cannot resist the temptation and easily follow the world’s evil trends, thus being devoured by Satan and living under the domain of the wicked. Just as God says, “But to people, it seems like a world of gaiety and splendor, one that is becoming more and more so. When people look upon the world, their hearts are drawn to it, and many are unable to extricate themselves from it; great numbers will be beguiled by those who engage in trickery and sorcery. If you do not strive for progress, and are without ideals, you will be swept away by this sinful wave.” As Christians, if our heart is attracted and occupied by the things that are in the world, we will not care about God’s requirements of our words and actions. We do not have a place for God in our hearts, nor do we have a God-loving heart. Jesus Christ taught us, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Mat 22:37). Then what should we do to avoid being tempted by the world’s evil trends? How can we love God with our whole heart and mind? God says, “Do not come into contact with things that can draw your heart away to the outside, and do not come into contact with people who can draw your heart away from God. Drop whatever it is that can distract your heart from being close to God, or stay away from it. That way is more beneficial to your life.” From these words we know that we should always be vigilant with our words and actions and have a God-loving heart. We should seek to satisfy God’s will in everything and not come into contact with the people, things, and matters that can draw our heart away from God. This way, we can be protected in this dark and evil world and suffer no losses in life.
